3rd qualifying round: Fenerbahce Istanbul - Young Boys Bern

Football - Qualification Champions League - 2010-08-04
Match preview

After they had played 2:2 in the first leg of Champions League qualification, Fenerbahce and Young Boys Bern will meet in Istanbul on Wednesday. In the first match the Young Boys had missed several good chances, hit bar or post three times and could equalize not before the 90th minute. Fenerbahce showed serenity in front of the goal when score twice out of two chances in the first half. Due to a red card for Colin Kazim in the 43.minute they had to play with only ten men the rest of the game then. In the return match the Turks are clear favourite, even when a 0:0 or 1:1 would be enough to go through.

The Young Boys have played a disappointing season so far. Though they belong to the favourites of the Swiss Super League, they couldn't win a match yet and are at the bottom of the table after only two points out of three games.

Fenerbahce has several players of international format (Lugano, Alex, Güiza, Emre, Demirel etc.) and has invested another 14 million Euros so far (Dia, Stoch, Erkin). The Turkish championships will not start before the 15th of August.

Conditions/Referee

The Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium in Istanbul is famous for their fanatic fans, that make it to a boiling pot. It also was the place of the ‘scandal match' Turkey - Switzerland in 2005, when there were riots on the pitch after the game was finished.

Head-to-Head

The only meeting so far:
1st leg: 28 July 2010: Young Boys - Fenerbahce 2:2

Betting tip/prediction

Even when a draw could be enough for Fenerbahce, they want to win their first match a home. And because they have far the higher quality, everything else would be a big surprise.
