With the giant slalom of the ladies the new season of the FIS Alpine Ski Word Cup is opened on Saturday. ORF1 shows the first and second run live (9:45 and 12:45). The big favorite for the first seasonal race in Sölden (Austria) is Denise Karbon.
Denise Karbon won in the last season five giant slaloms: Sölden (Austria), Panorama (Canada), Lienz (Austria), Spindlermühle (Czech Republic) and Ofterschwang (Germany). With 592 points the Italian also won the single evaluation as the best giant slalom runner of the past ski season. Also this year Karbon is the big favorite.
As the biggest competitor is valid the Austrian Elisabeth Görgl who could win last winter two races (Maribor and Bormio). In the single evaluation became Görgl with 479 points second behind Karbon. With Nicole Hosp the ÖSV team has a second good winning chance. Also Julia Mancuso (USA) counts to the circle of favorites.
