Confederations Cup – World Cup 2010 in South Africa
The Confederations Cup developed during the last years from of the `unbeloved tournament` to the last international preliminary tournament for the WorldCup! Also in South Africa the ConfedCup will be observed with big attention. In the time from the 14th June to the 28th of June 2009 the respective continental champions (USA, Brazil, Iraq, Egypt, Spain and New Zealand), as well as the host country (South Africa) and the world champion from 2006 (Italy) meet in South Africa. In 2 groups these nations will decide the winner of the eighth Confederations Cup. First both teams of every group qualify for the semi-final, on the 28th of June the Confederations Cup winner is determined in the final in Johannesburg. The destinations (stadiums) will be Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg (Ellis Park), Pretoria and Rustenburg.
Less then a year befor the start of the football world cup 2010 in South Africa the FIFA Confederations Cup begins on 14th of June 2009. Participating teams of the actual FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 are all winners of the six FIFA continential organisations, Italy as world cup winner 2006 and host South Africa.
The eight participating teams will be divided into two groups of four teams. The two teams finishing first and second in each group qualify for the semi finals on 24./25. June 2009. The final will take place on June 28th. in Johannesburg. The Confed Cup serves not only the participating nations not only as preparation for the football world cup 2010, but also the FIFA as preparation for the first international large tournament on the African continent.
