Qualification FIFA World Cup 2010 - CAF (Africa)
The qualification format in the African Zone. After a preliminary round in October/November 2007, 48 teams contested the second stage. These 48 nations were split into 12 groups of each 4 teams (league system with home and away match). The 12 group winners and the eight best runner-ups advanced into the third stage. This round is played in 5 groups to four teams (also league system with home and away match). The group winners are qualified for the World Cup 2010, also as South Africa as organizer. South Africa still takes part in the qualification, because this is valid at the same time the qualification for the African Cup.
