Argentina
The qualification for the 2010 World Cup was a real rollercoaster ride for Argentine soccer national team. Alfio Basili was sacked after a 0-1 against Chile. The reins took none other than Diego Maradona. The direct qualification for South Africa was only achieved with a last-minute win against Uruguay in the last group match.
The Argentine national team won two time the World Cup (1978, 1986) and is with fourteen appearances one of the most successful football national teams. However, due to the success the last win at a major tournament (1993: winner of the Copa America) dates some time back. In 2009 the Gauchos suffered with a 1-6 against Bolivia, a historic defeat.
