Germany
Germany secured in the UEFA qualifying Group 4 the first place and thus qualified directly for the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The DFB-selection was throughout the course of quality without defeat and left behind Russia, Finland, Wales, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein. Only the Finns were able to wrest the Germans twice in a draw.
The German national team is one of the most successful national football teams in the world. Three times (1954, 1974 and 1990) was the German team winning the WC title, four times they had to accept defeat in the final, most recently in 2002 against Brazil. Only twice (1930 and 1950) Germany didn't take part in World Cup. At the first World Cup renounced the DFB, in 1950 resumed by FIFA only after the World Cup. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that Germany hasn't suffered away defeat in twelve World Cup qualifying tournaments so far.
