After over 25 years, Honduras could qualify for the second time for a World Cup. In the CONCACAF qualifying the Honduran national team prevailed, because opponent Costa Rica squandered their World Cup ticket in the match against USA in the last second.

For the first time at a World Cup Honduras participated in 1982 in Spain. There 'Los catrachos' surprised the whole football world with their disciplined, technically accomplished game.
