In Group 9 of the UEFA qualification the Netherlands had to compete against Norway, Scotland, Macedonia and Iceland. The Elftal showed their special class and won all eight games of the group confidently and had suffered in the course of the qualification only two goals.

The 2010 World Cup in South Africa for the Netherlands is the ninth appearance in a World Cup first round. The biggest successes were in 1974 and 1978 when they failed just in the final. Certainly, for 2010 the Dutch should be one of the greatest favorites for the first World Cup on African soil.
