For the Slovenian association, founded in 1991, the World Cup 2010 in South Africa already will be the second appearance in history. As early as 2002 could participate in Japan and South Korea, but after the first round Slovenia had to return home.

For the 2010 World Cup Slovenia prevailed in the play-off matches against Russia. After a 2-1 in first leg in Moscow, the Slovenes achieved a 1-0 win at home in order to book the ticket to South Africa. The play-off reached Slovenia due a second place in group 3 qualifying behind Slovakia.
