Nations League: Netherlands vs. Poland

The Netherlands kick off their UEFA Nations League Group 1 campaign with a clash against Poland in Amsterdam on Friday night.

NETHERLANDS

The Dutch made it all the way to the final of this event last time but ultimately lost 1-0 to Portugal in the final. They bounced back with a solid Euro 2020 campaign winning six of their eight matches to qualify alongside Germany. The Oranje have yet again been drawn in a tough group, featuring alongside Poland, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Italy.

Coach Ronald Koeman who has overseen this revival has taken up the Barcelona coaching job. In his place, his assistant Dwight Lodeweges has been appointed as the interim coach and he will be keen to make a good impression.

POLAND

Poland are no pushovers. They are coming into this game on the back of a successful Euro qualifiers campaign that saw them qualifying for the Euro after winning 8 of their 10 Group G matches to top the group ahead of second-placed Austria.

Jerzy Brzeczek’s side are yet to taste victory in this competition, however. They finished bottom of their group in the 2018-19 edition, losing two and drawing two of their four games.

They will be without their leading marksman Robert Lewandowski. That notwithstanding, they still have in their squad quite a few players plying their trade from the top European leagues such as Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik and Hertha Berlin’s Krzysztof Piatek who will bear the responsibility of picking up the slack for the absent Lewandowski.

NETHERLANDS V POLAND MATCH PREVIEW AND BETTING TIPS

This is a tough game to call despite the odds suggesting otherwise. Both teams have had impressive European qualifiers campaigns as they both qualified for next summer’s competition. Netherlands, however, have a slight edge in terms of the quality of the players that will line up the pitch for this game. Robert Lewandowski is easily the best striker in the world at the moment and his loss will be a major factor here. With a midfield that has Man United’s new signing De Roon, Sevilla’s Europa winner De jong and Liverpool’s Wijnaldum, we feel the Dutch will have a bit of an edge in the midfield battle and creative players. We are therefore backing them to get a win here @ 1.38 with Bet9ja betting app as our first betting tip.

The biggest beneficiary of this creative midfield is Dutch striker Memphis Depay who has had an amazing season by all accounts. After overcoming injuries earlier in the season, he went ahead to carry Lyon on his back with his goal-scoring exploits seeing them go all the way to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they lost to eventual winners Bayern Munich. He has started the new Ligue 1 season with a bang, scoring a hat-trick in the opening fixture. He has been linked with a move to Barcelona to join up with Koeman and this game might serve as the perfect platform for him to showcase his credentials. We fancy him to score anytime @ 2.50 with Bet9ja betting app as our final tip for the game.
