RANGERS
The gulf in quality between the Champions League and the Europa League couldn’t be more pronounced. Rangers’ last season’s Europa Cup runners-up have been played off the park in their return to the Champions League group stage after 12 years in the cold. The Gers have outclassed by Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool and sit at the rock bottom of Group A without a single point to their name.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst switched to a back five at Anfield last week but they were still torn to shreds and their defence opened up on several occasions with keeper Allan McGregor pulling a string of saves to at least keep the scoreline to a decent 2-0 in favor of Liverpool.
They won 4-0 at the weekend against St Mirren but they will be under no illusions as to the challenge Liverpool portends for them. Anything short of a win here will nevertheless condemn them to a quick exit from the bright lights of the premier European club football showpiece.
LIVERPOOL
Like the hosts, Liverpool also went all the way to the final of European club football when they faced off and lost to European giants Real Madrid at the Saint-Denis’s Stade de France in Paris. They started off this season’s campaign on the wrong footing, losing 4-1 to Napoli but bounced back with back-to-back wins over Ajax and Rangers to keep their hopes of qualifying for the next phase alive.
The Reds have nevertheless looked like a pale shadow of themselves, for the most part, this season. Their struggles in the Premier League continued at the weekend when they fell to a 3-2 defeat to league leaders Arsenal. They twice fought back after falling behind but conceded a late penalty that Bukayo Saka converted to condemn them to more misery on the domestic front.
They will have their eyes fixed on the Napoli – Ajax game that precedes this one. A win for Napoli will certainly give them the impetus to extend the gap between them and the Amsterdam outfit to 6 points and put them in a great position to punch their ticket to the knockout rounds.

RANGERS VS LIVERPOOL PREDICTIONS
