#1 AFCON Favourite – Morocco

The Moroccans achieved a sensational 4th place at the World Championships in Qatar. Their defence in particular brought established football nations such as Spain, Portugal and Belgium to their knees. In the group stage, they left Canada, Belgium and Croatia behind them without defeat. Two victories were offset by one draw. As group winners, they met Spain in the round of 16, who were defeated 3:0 on penalties. In the quarter-finals, the Portuguese team led by Cristiano Ronaldo bared their teeth at the North Africans. En-Nesyri gave Morocco a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute and they held on for the win.

Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint Germain, Noussair Mazraoui from FC Bayern, Nayef Aguard and Sofyan Amrabat form a well-known and stable defence. Behind them, goalkeeper Bono keeps a clean sheet. During the World Cup, Morocco conceded just one goal up until the semi-finals. In attack, Hakim Ziyech, Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli and quarter-final hero En-Nesyri are responsible for the trouble.

#2 ACFON Favourite – Senegal – The reigning Champion

After a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes, Senegal beat Egypt on penalties in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022. Strikingly, Mo Salah did not even have to take the fifth spot-kick. As two Egyptians had already missed, Sadio Mané, Salah’s team-mate at Liverpool FC at the time, was able to clinch the title with his goal to make it 4-2. The Senegalese are once again among the AFCON top favourites this year.

Coach Aliou Cissé can continue to rely on national heroes Sadio Mané and captain Kalidou Koulibaly for the title defence. However, both are now playing in Saudi Arabia, which is irrelevant in sporting terms. But players such as Pape Matar Sarr, Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr are also capable of making the difference at any time. Cissé therefore once again has an experienced and top-class team at his disposal. At Betway, the Senegal to win AFCON odds are only just behind Morocco. Find our Betway Africa review here.

#3 AFCON Favourite – Ivory Coast

The third most valuable squad of the tournament is provided by the hosts themselves from the Ivory Coast. The Ivory Coast’s defence in particular is of international class. Ousmane Diomande, Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen, leader of the German Bundesliga) and Ibrahim Sangaré represent a lot of quality for the Elephants. The big question in the Africa Cup predictions will be how well the attack works. Players like Sébastien Haller and Nicolas Pépé and others have not been playing at their best for some time now.
Perhaps it is precisely the home tournament that many of them need to get their careers back on track.

Who else is there to win the Cup?

Of course, Nigeria with Victor Osimhen, last year’s finalists Egypt with Mo Salah, Cameroon and Algeria should also be on the radar. As always, we can look forward to an exciting, balanced and therefore entertaining tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Africa Cup was always shaped by minor and major surprises. We remember Zambia’s completely unexpected triumph in 2012. So it’s no wonder that established football nations such as Tunisia, Ghana or even Mali are also hoping for a long and successful tournament.

The AFCON mode – how it is played

24 teams play in six groups of 4 teams each for a place in the round of 16. The teams who finish first and second in each group advance to the knockout round. In addition, the four best third-placed teams in each group also progress to the round of sixteen, where they each have to face a group winner. Only one match is played against each other in both the group stage and the knockout matches. Traditionally, the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals will follow, as well as the final on 11 February. The match for third place will be played one day earlier on 10 February 2024.

AFCON Top Goalscorer Outrights

Who can be crowned the top scorer of the Africa Cup of Nations? Of course, the strikers who go furthest in the tournament have the best chances. The more matches are played, the more goals are likely to be scored. The players of the top favourites therefore have an advantage in the run-up to the tournament. It remains to be seen how long the teams’ journeys will actually be. In any case, the bookmakers have two clear favourites in Mohamed Salah (Egypt) and Victor Osimhen (Nigeria). But Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and of course Sadio Mané (Senegal) are also considered favourites. A look at the last tournament in 2022 shows that it doesn’t always have to be the favourites: Sadio Mané became African champion, but only scored three goals. The best AFCON scorer was Vincent Aboubakar from Cameroon with 8 goals. Incidentally, a Cameroonian (Karl Toko Ekambi) was also the second-highest scorer with five goals.

You can grab even higher odds by combining the top scorer of the Africa Cup with the eventual winner of the tournament. For example, if you bet on Napoli’s top star Victor Osimhen as the best AFCON goalscorer combined with Nigeria becoming African champions, you’ll get a whopping 21.00 odds. Our AFCON prediction – Who will win the Africa Cup of Nations?

Of course, in a tournament as big as the Africa Cup of Nations, it is extremely difficult to pick a clear favorite. Nevertheless, our Livetipsportal editorial team voted unanimously for the World Cup surprise Morocco. The reason for this is the rock-solid defense of the North Africans. Up until the semi-finals, they conceded just one goal, despite facing big-name opponents such as Belgium, Croatia, Portugal and Spain. As the saying goes, the offense wins games, the defense wins titles. If the Moroccans can build on their sensational performance at the World Cup, the title will clearly only go to them. The odds are still quite high this close to the tournament. We therefore recommend that you place your AFCON winner bet right now.

In our daily betting tips, we will also provide you with the latest predictions and betting tips for the individual matches as the tournament progresses. So stay tuned and visit Livetipsportal to keep up to date.
