AC Milan will be looking to return to winning ways in Group H as they welcome Celtic to the San Siro in the penultimate round of fixtures on Thursday night.
Despite the dominant start they have had in the Serie A this season where they are unbeaten and five points clear at the top, AC Milan have had a mixed bag of fortunes in the Europa League. They had a perfect start with 2 straight wins but they have only managed to pick up a point from the back-to-back games against Lille who subsequently dislodged them from the top of the group standings.
There is still a lot to play for in the group. Milan are only a point behind Lille and one ahead of third-placed Sparta Prague who tore apart Celtic in their back-back-games. A win will certainly guarantee passage to the next round.
The Rossoneri are still without the services of mercurial forward and leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is still recovering from an injury. They nevertheless showed how lethal they remain even in his absence with a clinical 2-0 win over Fiorentina at the weekend.
Celtic entered this competition with high hopes of making the knockout stages. They had dropped out of the Champions League qualifiers. This was however not to be as they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the group with one point from four matches and with no chance of qualifying.
This is not the only piece of disappointment they have had to deal with. They are having a season to forget. They cannot keep pace with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League race where they trail their rivals by a whopping 11 points, albeit, with a couple of games in hand. It got even worse at the weekend when they got dumped out of the Scottish Cup after they lost 2-0 at home to Ross County, despite having 75% possession.
Inevitably, all guns are trained on manager Neil Lennon. After losing 4-1 at home and away to Sparta in their last two Europa games, another huge loss might well be the final nail in his coffin.
AC Milan have shown they have great depth in their squad. Despite playing without leading striker Zlatan, first when he was in quarantine, and now that he is nursing an injury he picked in their win over Napoli a couple of weeks ago, they still remain unbeaten in pole position in the Serie A table. They stumbled against Lille to hand them the leadership of the group but they can give themselves a huge chance of qualifying or retaking the top spot with a win here against this Celtics team that has been woeful in their last few matches. For our first betting tip, we are backing Milan to win with a handicap -1 @ 1.75 with Interwetten.
Goals have been the common denominator in Celtics games. While they still retain some quality upfront, their defence has been atrocious, conceding 13 goals in their last 5 matches. The Over 2.5 goals option is priced @ 1.44 at Interwetten bookie review and we strongly feel it’s good enough to be our final tip for this game.
