Atletico Madrid will be looking to maintain their stranglehold at the top of the leaderboard of the La Liga table when they host Sevilla on Tuesday night.
Atletico had their match against Athletic Bilbao that was scheduled to play at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday postponed due to terrible weather. In spite of that, they still remain top of the table and that postponed game means they have three games in hand over the chasing pack led by Real Madrid who drew 0-0 against Osasuna to remain second on the log.
They have been by far the best team in La Liga this season. Los Rojiblancos have won 12, drawn two and only lost one of their 15 matches, scoring 29 times and conceding just six, and they come into this contest off the back of four straight league victories.
This is one of these games in hand and Atleti will need to make the most of these to build a cushion over their rivals at the summit.
Like their hosts, Sevilla, meanwhile, are also on an impressive run in the league that has seen them go undefeated in their last six matches, winning four of them. They are in sixth place on the log, two points shy of fourth-placed Villarreal, and more importantly, with two games in hand.
They looked good at the weekend against early-season pacesetters Real Sociedad, with a hat-trick from forward Youssef En-Nesyri helping them pick up three massive points in an entertaining 3-2 win at Estadio Ramon on Saturday.
Sevilla will look to build some momentum from these recent strong performances in their quest for another top-four finish in the league this season.
Sevilla has proven to be a hard nut to crack for Atleti in recent seasons. The two teams have shared the spoils in their last five H2H encounters in the league dating back to Feb 2018. However, this is a very different Atletico team they will be facing this season. They have started the season with verve and a psyche of a serious championship contender. They have thrown the gauntlet to the big boys and are ready for the long game. Their modus operandi remains the same though. A highly efficient attack spearheaded by Luis Suarez tempered with the meanest defence in the league. Atleti have gone on a 4 game winning streak after losing to cross-town rivals Real Madrid. We fancy them to keep this run going by picking up the win here @ 2.01 with Melbet as our initial betting tip.
Atleti’s renewed focus on defence means this game might have a different outlook from these recent encounters. Sevilla, despite the 3-2 spectacle in the last game have also been quite good defensively. Neither of these teams will be willing to cede too much ground to the other and we are therefore likely to have a close game that will not really present lots of scoring opportunities. We are therefore going for Under 2.5 goals @ 1.53 with Melbet as our last call here.
