Granada vs Manchester United, UEFA Europa League, 08.04.2021
The UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals is set to take centre stage across Europe and one of the fixtures has pit former champions Manchester United against the Spanish side, Granada, who will be at home to welcome the English side to the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenenes in the first leg of the tie. The English sides have been installed as favourites by the bookies. But you have to find out where our betting tips for this game are tilted.
GRANADA
Granada are having a dream run in their first time of asking in Europe’s second-tier competition and this could be the season to finally have some recognition beyond the shores of Spain. This season Granada have been punching above their weight and they are currently sitting in the 9th position on the La Liga log. It is even better for the Nazaries on the European stage with a fairytale run in the Europa League which has seen them earn a quarter-final tie with Manchester United.
They have earned victories over teams from eight different countries and they will be gunning for another scalp in Manchester United. The Spaniards cannot wish for a better debut than the run they are currently enjoying. By all intent and purposes, Manchester United are the bigger team and they are favourites going into the first leg, but stranger things have happened in Football.
However, their recent form would be a major source of worry for Diego Martinez. His team have lost their last three games in all competitions and that’s a form no manager wants to take into a match with huge ramifications.
Having said that, Granada have shown that they are more than capable of upsetting the apple cart a few times this season.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Former Champions Manchester United had to rely on Paul Pogba’s effort at the San Siro to see off AC Milan and subsequently book a place in the quarterfinals of the Europa League after a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford.
Last weekend the Red Devils came from behind to defeat Brighton 2-1 at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer side showed signs of lethargy that have slowed them down at times this season. They were lucky to claim all three points in the game, and they may not be that fortunate with a repeat of such a rudderless performance against their Spanish opposition.
However United have shown impressive form in Europa since dropping From the Champions League. They have only conceded a goal in their for matches in the competition so far. The draw for the quarter-finals also seem to be kind to Solksjaer and his team but United will do well to be wary of the threat posed by Granada.
With the Premiership title seemingly out of reach for the Red Devils, the Europa League represents the best chance for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to win his first piece of silverware as a manager at Old Trafford.
