Coming off a decent point away at Chelsea at the weekend, Manchester United are set to retain Michael Carrick in the dugout as they welcome old foes Arsenal to Old Trafford on Thursday night for a Premier League showdown.

The Red Devils have seemingly fared well after the exit of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but they still have a long way to go to catch up with the title contenders and Arsenal could very well exploit some of their weaknesses.

We expect an action-packed fixture here and we shall explore 1xBet and Mybet.africa markets and prices for today’s betting tips.

MANCHESTER UNITED

On Monday, Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as their manager for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. However, with the work permit paperwork still being processed, Carrick, who has overseen two positive results as interim manager will yet again rally the troops for Arsenal’s visit.

Carrick’s decision to drop Ronaldo from the starting lineup against Chelsea blindsided everyone. He was however vindicated as they battled the heavily fancied Chelsea to a stalemate at the Stamford Bridge. The point, while impressive, didn’t help much with their ranking as they remain in 8th place, three places below the visiting Gunners.

United have been poor at Theatre of Dreams with just a point collected from their last 4 league games here. The expectant Old Trafford faithful will be roaring them on here as they try to turn the corner with a win.

ARSENAL

After the 4-0 rout at the hands of Liverpool, Arsenal responded with a solid 2-0 home win over thanks to goals Bulayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. That Liverpool loss incidentally is their only loss in the last 10 matches and this solid run has seen them rise like a phoenix from the ashes into 5th place on the log, tied with fourth placed West Ham on points but with an inferior goal difference.

The North Londoners had a nightmarish start to the season but that all seems like a distant memory as Arteta’s young guns have turned their season around in dramatic fashion. One of the standout performers has been their goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale who has been pulling off game saving and man-of-match worthy saves in their terrific run.

That said, they have struggled on their travels with their return of just three goals in their six away games being the second-worst in the league, only better than Norwich. Their last visit here was successful though and they will be looking to replicate it.

MAN UNITED VS ARSENAL PREDICTIONS

Manchester United will be looking to build on their relatively solid performance at Chelsea. Despite the two positive results they have had under Carrick, it is not a stretch to say they were outplayed in both of those games. Fortunately for them, the Gunners haven’t quite been finding the back of the net particularly away from the Emirates. United will be out to impress the new coach who will be in attendance and what better way to do it than tucking it in on defence. Arsenal have been quite solid at the back themselves with the exception of the Liverpool game. As such, we fancy a low scoring affair in our first Premier League prediction and we are picking Under 2.5 goals @ 2.02 with Mybet.africa Bonus as our first tip.

These two teams have a long history of feisty affairs and given the prevailing circumstances, there is no reason to believe Thursday’s clash won’t be the latest instalment of such games. Their last 3 straight meetings at Old Trafford have all ended with exactly 6 bookings.  With Fred set to be at the heart of the midfield action, he looks like the obvious suspect to land in Martin Atkinson’s book and a price of 2.87 at 1xBet app for the Brazilian to receive a booking is too good to ignore in what is likely to be a bad-tempered match.
