The pick of the weekend matches from the EPL sees Jose Mourinho taking his Tottenham side to Old Trafford to face his immediate former club Manchester United with both teams looking to establish an early rhythm in this new season.
After a fantastic second half of the2019/20 season that saw them climbing from near mid-table to finish third in the Premier League, Manchester United began this season with deflated tyres. They lost the opener to Crystal Palace and needed a Bruno Fernandes penalty literally as the final piece of the action in the match to secure a 3-2 comeback win at Brighton.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly still trying to find the right combinations in defence and midfield. The defence was particularly atrocious against Brighton as they afforded them chance after chance with Brighton hitting the woodwork five times in that match. There are signs that the attack is starting to find it’s pace and rhythm. They’ve now scored three goals in the last three matches if we include midweek cup victories over Luton and Brighton.
Tottenham will provide the ultimate test for them.

Like United, Tottenham are also looking to establish some consistency in this early part of the season following a mixed bag of results that has seen them literally pick a loss, win and a draw in their opening three games. They lost to high flying Everton on opening day thumping Southampton 5-2. Just as the fans thought they had turned a corner, they were brought down to earth after conceding an injury-time penalty that Callum Wilson converted for Newcastle to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw in London last weekend.
Tottenham have had a hectic fixture list which has seen them travel to Bulgaria and North Macedonia in the Europa League last week before coming back to London for the Newcastle game. They have also faced Chelsea and Maccabi this week ahead of this match.
Jose Mourinho will have to do without Son for this match after the South Korean star picked up a hamstring injury against Newcastle.
This is a difficult match to predict an outright winner. Both of these teams are yet to play to their full potential this season. They’ve both shown flashes of their explosive attacks. With both teams needing a win here, we can expect an attacking fest from the get-go and given the quality of attacking players from both sides, we fancy both teams to score @ 1.68 with Blackbet for our initial betting prediction for this game.
As Bayern Munich’s game at Hoffenheim showed last weekend, fatigue can make even the Lords of club football look like mere mortals. Coming into this game, Spurs will have played 4 matches in a week. With United slowly starting to find their rhythm and injuries starting to pile up for Tottenham, you can see the edge tilting United’s way. They are unbeaten in the last three matches against Tottenham and have scored the opening goal in 8 of the last 10 meetings. Blackbet have United to score the first goal priced @ 1.67 and we are snapping it up as our final call for this clash.
