Atalanta will be looking to solidify their push for second place in the Serie A when they visit Parma on Tuesday night in their penultimate game of the season.
Â
Parma have had a relatively successful season by their standards. After finishing 14th last season on their return to the top-flight, they look set to get a better finish this season. They are currently in 11th place with 46 points, just 2 points off 8th place Sassuolo.
While a European place finish is out of reach with a couple of games left, Roberto D’Aversa men are clearly looking to end the season on a high. They are coming into this game off back-back victories over Napoli and Brescia. Well, Atalanta is a whole different kettle of fish altogether, but Parma will certainly relish the challenge.
Atalanta have without a doubt been the most entertaining team in the Serie A this season. They have scored 96 goals – 20 more than the next team on this metric and have been keeping pace with the top 4 for just about the entire season.
With Juve clinching the league title at the weekend, the race for positions 2 – 4 looks destined to go down to the wire with just a point separating Inter, Atalanta and Lazio in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively with two rounds to go.
La Dea have been unbeaten in the Serie A since January 20th. The goal streams, however, have dried up a bit in recent matches largely due to the injury to influential attacking midfielder Joseph Ilicic. He has 15 goals and 5 assists to his name this term. That notwithstanding, they still have enough quality within their ranks to take care of business.
Atalanta have never finished second in the Serie A in their entire history. For a club that was perennially in the lower half of the table for the better part of this decade, their transformation in the last three or so years has been nothing short of remarkable. This game presents them yet another opportunity to add another chapter onto this glorious run. They easily beat Parma 5-0 when they hosted them in the reverse fixture. We don’t quite expect another mauling but we anticipate they will pick up all three points on offer again. We are therefore backing a Halftime and Fulltime Win for Atalanta @ 1.99 with Blackbet as our initial betting tip for this match.
Roberto D’Aversa has implemented an attacking philosophy at Parma that has seen them score at least a goal in each of their last 11 consecutive games. Atalanta hasn’t been quite resolute defensively, failing to keep a clean sheet in 7 of their last 8 away matches. We are certainly expecting a lively contest at the Ennio Tardini Stadium. Blackbet have both teams to score option priced @ 1.60 and we see some value in going with this as our final prediction here.
