Familiar foes Spain and Portugal kick off their 20223 UEFA Nations League on Thursday night when they face off at the Estadio Benito Villamarin in Seville for their League A Group 2 opener.

This Iberian derby is as old a rivalry as you can get. There has been little to separate them lately with 4 straight draws between them in their last 4 encounters, three of these being goalless stalemates.

We expect another close game here and we will focus on Odibets and Frapapa betting markets and bonus for our betting tips for today.

SPAIN

Having lost in the final of the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League to France, Spain will be hoping to go one better this time. To this end, they will need to navigate through this group that also has Czech Republic and Switzerland over the next couple of weeks, a run of games that coach Luis Enrique will also use to ramp up preparations for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Luis Enrique has been overseeing a rebuild project for La Roja after they fell off the grid following their 2010 World Cup triumph. He has a good mix of upcoming stars and some veterans in the squad and there has been great growth in his squad if the 2020 Euro semifinals exit is anything to go by.

Spain come into this match on a good run of 4 straight wins across all competitions including a couple of friendlies against Albania and Iceland. They will look to keep that momentum going here.

PORTUGAL

Portugal finally punched their ticket to 2022 World Cup after having to go through the rigours of the playoffs where they defeated Turkey in the semifinals before putting surprise packages and giant slayers North Macedonia 2-0 in the final. They got a somewhat lucky stroke in the group draws as they landed in Group H where they will play Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.

They will also use this competition to gear up for the world cup as they also take on Switzerland (twice) and Czech Republic after this match but in a span of the next couple of weeks.

A Seleção won the inaugural Nations League tournament back in 2018 and have posted fairly good results since then, with just one loss in 12 matches at this event overall. They have named a strong team and will therefore still be a force to reckon with here.

SPAIN VS PORTUGAL PREDICTIONS

Spain have shown tremendous progress under Luis Enrique. He has laid a great foundation from which they have built a team that could have an outside chance of competing for the world cup later in the year. The major transformation we have noted has been on the defensive end where they have imposed themselves. 16  of their last 18 games has seen them keep their opponents at bay in the opening half. A repeat of the same (Spain clean sheet in 1st half) here pays @ 1.50 with Odibet Free Bet and we fancy this option for our opening betting tip.

Both of these teams have named fairly strong teams for this tournament. They will both be using these matches as preparations for the world cup. We, therefore, expect a heightened level of competitiveness and physicality. Considering the rivalry between the two teams that go way back, there will be a measure of hostility here that could see cynical challenges leading to bookings. Over 3.5 Bookings is priced @ 1.83 with Frapapa Bonus and we feel there is value in going with it for our final pick for this game.
