Bayern Munich welcome Borussia Monchengladbach to the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening as they inch closer to their eighth Bundesliga title on the trot.
The Bavarian giants have opened up a seven-point gap between themselves and second-placed Borussia Dortmund. After whooping Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 on Saturday, the reigning champions need just two wins to claim their eighth Bundesliga title in a row.
Serge Gnabry missed out Bayern’s cup victory in midweek with a bruised back and is racing for fitness ahead of this match. Ivan Perisic may start out wide if Gnabry fails to make the team. Bayern will also be without Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, both suspended for this fixture after picking up bookings last weekend. Youngster Joshua Zirkzee could get the nod to lead the line for Bayern.
Monchengladbach’s quest for Champions League football next season took a heavy dent following an inexplicable 1-0 loss against Freiburg last Friday. They are hanging onto that fourth and final slot on goal difference ahead of Leverkusen, although they are also just three points behind third-placed RB Leipzig.
Marco Rose’s side has been underwhelming since resumption with just one win from four games – and that win was against Union Berlin, which in all fairness they were expected to win.
They will be without Alassane Plea following his red card in the defeat to Freiburg. Breel Embolo is an option for Rose after the forward made his return to training, while Raffael has recovered from a minor ankle problem.
Bayern’s dominance of the Bundesliga has been there for all and sundry to see. It is almost impossible to bet against them particularly now with the golden prize within a touching distance. They are on a 16-game unbeaten run in the league and are two wins away from their 8th straight title. Although they will be without some key players for this game, they still have a wealth of quality players within their rank and file and they should be good enough to stamp their authority and pick up all three points.
Bear in mind Gladbach won the reverse fixture 2-1 back in December, coming from a goal down to win that game. Revenge is therefore very much on the Bavarian giants’ mind as they approach this game.
Betting Tip: BAYERN MUNICH TO WIN AND OVER 2.5 GOALS @1.67 with Betway betting app
Both of these teams have been scoring goals for fun for the entirety of the season. Bayern leads the league with 90 goals scored thus far, which is in itself a Bundesliga record, while Gladbach are not too far behind in 4th place on the scoring charts with 57 goals. 4 of their last 6 encounters had both sides finding the back of the net. With the game poised to be an all-out attacking showdown, we expect this both teams to score at the Allianz Arena.
