A 5-0 thrashing of Sporting in the first leg of their last-16 tie was all Manchester City needed as they let the foot off the pedal in the 2nd leg at the Etihad in a dour goalless draw which was more than enough to earn them a ticket to the last eight of a competition they have coveted for the longest time.

Atletico looked to be down and out after being held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United at their Wanda Metropolitano. They however proved, as they have many a time before, that they are built for this competition as they put up a signature Diego Simeone display at Old Trafford in the 2nd leg, which they won 1-0 to sail through on a 2-1 aggregate win.
The reigning La Liga Champions have had a torrid time in defence of their title as they find themselves 12 points behind their neighbors Real Madrid, with the finishing line in sight. They have nevertheless found some rhythm recently, winning their last six straight La Liga games including a 4-1 thrashing of Alaves at the weekend.
