MANCHESTER CITY
The biggest story coming out of the blue half of Manchester has of course been Erling Haaland’s terrific start as a Manchester City plater. The son of former City midfielder Alfe Inge has scored an incredible 14 goals in his first 10 appearances for the Blues. He has certainly unlocked Pep Guardiola’s offence giving it a dimension they have previously not really had during his tenure at the Etihad.
The defending champions are off to a great start to the season and they look even more formidable to go on another title run this term. They sit a point behind Arsenal in 2nd place after their 3-0 win over Wolves before the break.
As he is wont to do, Pep will rotate his squad here but he will still put his faith in midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to continue pulling the strings like he has been doing like a maestro conducting a Concerto. His two assists at Wolves put him at par with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard with 92 Premier League assists. With Haaland at the other end, they will be quite a handful for the United defence here.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United lost back-to-back games to start the season – the second one being an embarrassing 4-0 loss at home to Brentford. They however recovered well from this poor start and proceeded to put together an impressive run of four straight Premier League wins, claiming some big scalps including Liverpool and Arsenal while at it!
Erik ten Hag who took charge of United in the summer has had the unenviable task of blending new signings with the old guard in United. He has done a commendable job thus far though. New signings Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have all made their mark in their starting roles and last summer’s signings Varane and Sancho appear to have settled down well in their sophomore seasons.
