Manchester United v FC Copenhagen, Europa League

Manchester United face off with FC Copenhagen on Monday evening in a one-off Europa League quarter-final fixture.

Ole Gunnar Solaskjaer granted his big guns a time-out from their second leg round of 16 fixture against Lask Linz. That largely second-string side he fielded huffed and puffed for most of the match but they still ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Lingard and substitute Martial overturning an early second-half goal from Linz.

From here on, however, normal service should resume. United are desperate to get a piece of silverware as an icing to their relatively successful season. They finished third in the league behind runaway leaders Liverpool and neighbours Man City. Plus, they reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they lost to Chelsea.

Copenhagen have grown from strength to strength as the competition progressed. They weren’t particularly impressive in the group stages but their two wins and 3 draws was enough to seem them grabbing second place in their group behind Malmo. They then dispatched Celtics and Turkish champions Basaksehir in impressive style to become the first Danish club to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

They, therefore, come into this match with quite a bit of confidence. They were the underdogs against both Celtic and Basaksehir and despite starting poorly against both of them, they turned the heat up when it really mattered and got very impressive victories against both.

With Man United expected to field their strongest possible starting XI for this encounter, the trajectory the game is likely to follow is not really in dispute. United will enjoy the lion’s share of the possession as Copenhagen sit back and try to hit them on the counter. In games that United dominate, they like to bring in their wing-backs to bolster the attack with timely runs and crosses into the penalty area. We are likely to see quite a bit of that and with Copenhagen determined to defend, we are likely to see United getting a flurry of corners from such action. Bwin have priced Over 5.5 Corners for Man United @ 1.57 and we quite fancy this option as our initial betting tip for the game.

United have made it clear to all and sundry that they are out to win this cup at all costs. They are the top scorers in the competition with 23 goals scored. The addition of Bruno Fernandes to their squad has worked like a charm. Their forwards have been firing from all cylinders in this second half of the season. Copenhagen have also done well in their recent rounds scoring 3 goals in 2 of their last four knockout matches. This being a one-off match, we expect the best of both teams and that should see goals flowing. Bwin betting app’s Over 2.5 goals @ 1.53 looks really tempting for this match and we are backing it as our final tip here.
