RB Leipzig vs Liverpool, UCL 16.02.2021

LIVERPOOL will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday night at Budapest’s Puskas Stadium.

This is a contest between teams with very contrasting records coming into the game and that makes for a potentially intriguing game whose betting tips we will take a look at.

A 3-2 win over Manchester United on matchday six secured Leipzig’s place in the last 16 as runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain. Since that win, they have lost just twice in 13 games across all competitions, keeping nine clean sheets in the process which is a huge improvement from their group stage showing where they shipped in 12 goals – the most of any teams that made it to this stage.

Leipzig are in terrific form at the moment. They have won each of their last four games, with the most recent being the 2-1 win over Augsburg on Friday night which pushed them up to second in the league, five points adrift of leaders Bayern who dropped points on Monday night with a 3-3 draw at home to Arminia Bielefeld.

RB Leipzig showed they can match up with the big boys last season by going all the way to the semifinals where they were eliminated by PSG which was quite a big achievement in their short European sojourn.

With their hopes of defending the Premier League crown fast fading into the thin air, Liverpool will try and train their guns on this competition with the hope that they can get more favorable returns to wipe away the terrible patch of results they have experienced lately.

The six-time European champions are on a slippery slope at the moment losing each of their last three games, the latest the monumental collapse at Leicester on Saturday, which saw them conceding three quick-fire goals in the final 10 minutes of the match to lose 3-1 despite scoring the opener.

This loss effectively ended their title defence and we can expect Klopp to switch his focus to this competition as a possible soft landing.

The change of venue appears to have tilted the edge slightly in favor of Liverpool here but their recent struggles coupled with Leipzig’s terrific form coming into this match means they could struggle to cash in on that through-pass. They have been depleted by injuries to the squad and could have as many as eight first-team players unavailable. Leipzig, despite being relative lightweights in Europe, have proven they can go toe-to-toe with the best of them. We fancy them to make the most of Liverpool’s woes and we are backing them to pick up the first-leg win on the double chance here @ 1.58 with Bet9ja betting app.

In all their struggles, Liverpool’s style of play has remained fairly constant. Klopp prefers to play through their wingbacks to add more width to their three-man attack of Mane, Salah and Firminho. This usually sees them edge the 1X2 corner count. A repeat of this here pays 1.72 with Bet9ja and we feel there is value in picking it for our final tip for this tie.
