A convincing 3-0 thumping of the Leopards of Congo DR on Sunday evening is how Senegal concluded their group stage fixtures that saw them top group B on six points from their three matches, two points clear of 2nd placed Ivory Coast.

Mamadou Sy scored the all-important winner in the 53rd minute of the match at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium and Amir Abdou’s charges held on valiantly to the end.
The four points they collected in the group games ensured the Lions of Chinguetti finished top of Group D, two points clear of 2nd placed Angola.
This is their maiden appearance at the knockout stages of this competition. They come in as the underdog, but they have certainly shown they could well be the dark horses that could still ruffle a few feathers off the established teams here.
