High flying La Liga heavyweights Sevilla and Barcelona face off at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.
We will delve deep into our betting predictions for this clash.
Sevilla have been in terrific form. Since December, they have only lost once in 17 matches across all competitions. They have won the last seven straight games while conceding just a single goal in that run.
They have also shown some pedigree in this cup competition, having won it five times before, with three of these coming in the last 11 years. They eased past Valencia and Almeria in the previous two rounds to set up this date with the Catalans.
Los Nervionenses have had it rough against Barcelona though, failing to beat them in any of their last five meetings with them, which includes a 6-1 thrashing that Barca handed out to them the last time they met in this competition back in 2019. They will be keen to end that dubious record here.
Like the hosts, Barca are also enjoying a good run at the moment. They have won six in a row in the league to keep their La Liga title hopes alive. Unfortunately for them, Atletico have built a sizeable cushion at the top and have not shown any signs of slowing down, although they did draw their last game to give the chasing pack a glimmer of hope that the title race may still not be done and dusted.
The Catalans have formed a habit of leaving things late. They needed late goal drama in the last round of this competition at Granada and in Sunday’s league game at Betis where Francisco Trincao’s match-winner three minutes from time earned them a 3-2 win at Betis on Sunday.
Ronald Koeman knows such reckless play won’t cut it against this well-drilled Sevilla team and he will need his boys to be focused on the task at hand in this first leg.
Both of these teams are playing exceptionally well at the moment and it’s difficult to pick a winner here one way or the other. The last two meetings between them ended all square. We expect another back and forth battle, with both teams looking to hold service in this first leg with the second leg still to come. The corner market is of particular interest here with the last five meetings between them yielding 10+ corners. Fezbet Welcome Bonus pays odds of 1.95 for a repeat of this.
Sevilla’s win over Getafe came at a cost. Lucas Ocampos picked up an ankle injury and is likely to be unavailable for this match. Barca’s defence has been terrible despite their winning streak. In Ocampos’ absence, Youssef En-Nesyri is probably going to have to pick up the goal-scoring tab. He has scored 5 goals in his last 7 games and we are backing him to find the back of the net anytime @ 2.34 with Fezbet.
