Sweden vs Spain, UEFA World Cup Qualifiers, 02.09.2021
Sweden and Spain will renew their rivalry when they face off on Thursday at the Friends Arena in Solna, Sweden, for a World Cup Qualifying match.
This comes in quick succession to their Euro 2020 group encounter that ended goalless. Coming back to this competition, these two rivals have had strong starts and occupy the top two slots Group B.
We expect another closely fought encounter here. We shall explore Odibets Free Bet prices for our tips in this preview.
Sweden has been off to a perfect start in their World Cup Qualifiers with victories over Georgia and Kosovo in their opening two group games.
Janne Andersson’s side then proceeded to the Euros in high spirits and they did really well in the group stages, taking the top spot after a draw with Spain and wins over Slovakia and Poland. They however came a cropper in the round of 16 where they lost to Ukraine in extra time.
With the Euros now over and done with, they shift their focus back to this World Cup Qualifiers and where they have traditionally excelled. Spain however is a formidable foe and they will need to be at their utmost best if they hope to get anything from the game.
After a slow start in their World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw in their opener against Greece, Spain have turned up the heat with back-back-wins over Georgia and Kosovo which has catapulted them to the top of the group on 7 points ahead of Sweden who have 6 points.
La Roja also had great success at the Euros where they made it all the way to the semis before losing to eventual champions Italy in post-match penalties, which was quite impressive considering they had been written off by most pundits prior to the tournament.
Luis Enrique will be looking to build on the promise they showed at the Euros with some of their younger players like Mikel Oyarzabal and Ferran Torres starting to come of age. A win here will create a decent cushion over Sweden and put them in a prime position to qualify.

SWEDEN VS SPAIN MATCH FORECAST AND BETTING TIPS
Just like they showed in June, Sweden will not simply roll over against Spain who may on paper be the better team. They have a great chance to leapfrog them on the table and take pole position ahead of the remaining group games. We, therefore, expect a very tight game particularly in the first half and we fancy Sweden on the double chance in that opening half @ 1.52 as the opening of our football betting tips today.
As much as both sides possess plenty of attacking talent, we feel the priority, perhaps for both teams here will be to hold their ground. Spain certainly want to retain the top spot and Sweden wouldn’t want to drop any lower than they are. A low-scoring encounter is therefore on the cards here and we are picking Under 2.5 Goals @ 1.67 at Odibet as our last call.
There are plenty more qualifiers in the pipeline this week. Check out our football prediction for tomorrow to see what else we have lined up for you and place your bets early to maximize on the terrific opening prices on some of these games!
