Uruguay vs Colombia, Copa America 04.07.2021

Uruguay and Colombia lock horns in what is in all assessment the pick of this weekend’s Copa America quarter-final action, with both nations keen to reach the semi-finals.

Uruguay have looked resurgent as the tournament progressed while Colombia seemed to be running out gas and ended up finishing third in their group.

22Bet Welcome Bonus offers quite a few interesting betting options for this game and we will highlight a couple of them in this preview.

Uruguay had a sluggish start to this year’s Copa America with a tough 1-0 loss to Argentina in their opening match and a 1-1 draw with Chile on matchday 2. However, they grew with the tournament and turned up the ante in the remaining two group games, comfortably winning against both Bolivia and Paraguay, leapfrogging them into second in the group as a result.

Although Oscar Tabarez’s men are yet to unlock their attacking potential, they have tightened up at the back and will look to carry the momentum from the final group games into this matchup.

Unlike their opponents, Colombia have cooled off from a great start in this year’s tournament. A 1-0 win over Ecuador was followed by a disappointing goalless draw against the rock bottom team Venezuela. They then finished with identical back-to-back 2-1 losses to Peru and Brazil, dropping them down to third in the group.

In all fairness though, they did play fairly well against Brazil and were on course for a massive upset, leading 1-0 until the 78th minute against the pre-tournament favorites. They however couldn’t keep their composure and Brazil snatched it from them literally with the last kick of the match. Coach Reinaldo Rueda will demand a better response here.

A close and competitive encounter is expected here. Both teams haven’t quite played to full potential and they will definitely be looking to bring their A-games here. There are no free candy bars in the quarterfinals of this cup. You have to earn a victory in tough physical battles like the one we expect to have here. If past encounters are anything to go by, there is clearly no love lost between these two teams. The last three straight meetings ended with 5 or more names going into the referee’s little book. With the stakes so high here, we fancy a repeat of the same @ 1.75 as the first of our betting tips today.

With Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani finding their scoring boots, coupled with Uruguay’s rock-solid defence marshalled by Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez featuring at centre-back, we feel Uruguay just have the slight edge here in terms of quality and they could nip a close win. Colombia have struggled in front of goal in this tournament thus far and that does not augur well for them. 22Bet have priced Uruguay to qualify for the semis @ 1.70 and we feel this is great value to back for our final tip.
