Villarreal will be praying for a miracle when they welcome Liverpool for the second leg of their 2021022 Champions League semifinal tie at La Ceramica on Tuesday evening.

The Yellow Submarine have certainly made a name for themselves as giant killers in this tournament but a 2-0 deficit against Jurgen Klopp’s high flying charges may be a bridge too far.

We will explore Sahara Games and Betway’s markets and prices for our UCL betting predictions for this game.

Despite keeping a clean sheet in the opening half at Anfield, Liverpool’s pressure eventually came to bear with two quick goals from a deflected Henderson shot and a clinical Sadio Mane finish that put the Reds in the driving seat in this tie.

Villarreal seem to have been rattled by this result as they followed it up with a 2-1 defeat to Alaves at the weekend, albeit with a vastly revamped starting lineup.

Although they haven’t lost at home since November, the task at hand here is a daunting one for Unai Emery’s charges. Only Liverpool themselves have ever turned around a 2-goal deficit in a semifinal of this competition back in the 2018/19 season. Having said that, they will certainly not go down without a fight here.

Liverpool’s dream of a historic quadruple remains very much alive. They kept pace with Man City in the Premier League title race with a clinical 1-0 win away at Newcastle in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.  City thrashed Leeds United on their part to keep the Reds at arm’s length as they maintained a one-point advantage atop the standings with just 4 matches left to play.

Having already bagged the league cup and qualified for the FA Cup Finals, they are now 90 minutes away from this season’s Champions League final, which would be their tenth appearance in the final of Europe’s most prestigious club competition –  joining Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich as the only teams with double-digit trips to the final.

The Reds are enjoying a terrific run of form. Victory over Newcastle was their sixth on the trot. In fact they have won all five of their Champions League away games this season. Klopp will certainly be looking to add to that tally here.

Villarreal have certainly been a hard nut to crack at their backyard in recent months. They are however coming up against an opponent that has been ruthless on their travels and keeping them at bay will be easier said than done. They offered little to nothing offensively at Anfield and they will certainly need to be more enterprising if they have any hope of turning this around. We fancy a much more open game here in light of this and with both teams looking to attack, we are likely to witness a few corners either way. As such we are backing Over 8.5 Corners @ 1.63 with Betway Bonus as our first tip.

With Villarreal needing to get themselves back in the tie, they have no choice but to commit themselves forward here as they look for the early goal. This is likely to play right into Liverpool’s hands whose intention is to drive a dagger in the souls of the hosts by scoring the early goal. The Reds have wealth of attacking talent that are likely to exploit the gaps at the back of the Yellow Submarine. We fancy them to break the ice here with the opening goal @ 1.54 with Sahara Games as our final betting tip today.
