RB Leipzig vs Dortmund, DFB Pokal final, 13.05.2021

Just a few days following their weekend league fixture, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund lock horns once again in the DFB-Pokal final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Thursday evening.

With Bayern confirmed as league champions, both of these clubs will be focused on delivering this cup as a consolation for this season and therefore a close and exciting encounter awaits us here.

22Bet Welcome Bonus offers good prices for our betting tips and we will use them for our preview.

Julian Nagelsmann who is set to take up the reign at Bayern in the summer will be hoping to depart Leipzig on a high by delivering their first-ever major silverware, which incidentally will also be his first.

The Red Bulls look set to finish as runners up to Bayern in the Bundesliga this season despite the 3-2 loss they suffered at Dortmund over the weekend in what looked like a dress rehearsal for this final. They remain second on the log with just two more rounds to play, 4 points clear of 3rd placed Wolfsburg and six of Dortmund who moved up to 4th thanks to that win.

Nagelsmann will have been pleased with the fight his side showed to level the scores after going 2-0 down. However, concerns remain over the defensive lapses that led to Dortmund’s goals, particularly given that Erling Haaland did not play, and he will demand a better showing here.

Dortmund come into this game in buoyant mode given their strong form in recent weeks. Including the weekend win over Leipzig, they have now put up a string of six wins in their last seven matches. This run has seen them surge back into the top four which is for all intents and purposes the irreducible minimum expectation from the fans of the Yellow and Black.

Dortmund have had great success in this competition in recent years. They have won it five times and have been to the finals in 6 of the last 10 editions of this cup. Edin Terzic will therefore be looking to follow the footsteps of the likes of Jurgen Klopp’s and Thomas Tuchel’s footsteps as his final hurrah with the club with Marco Rose set to take over as BvB coach in the summer too.

Unlike the league game at the weekend which Leipzig didn’t really have much to lose from, we expect a much more closely fought final here. In a league that has been dominated for years by Bayern Munich, this is a rare shot at silverware for both of these teams. They have both impressed in the competition and this could be a classical chess match that could go all the way to extra time. Bookies have quite rightly decreed that it is dead-even between these two sides. We however feel that Dortmund have the momentum coming into this final and have just a bit more quality in the final third. We are therefore backing them on the double chance @ 1.52 as our first betting tip.

Incredibly, neither side have conceded a goal in normal time of this season’s DFB-Pokal. With so much on the line, both teams might default to this form in the final and it may not be as mouthwatering as Saturday’s meeting. We are therefore backing Under 3.5 goals here @ 1.46 with 22Bet bookie review as our last call for this game.

We have more sure wins for tomorrow prepared by our team of experts. Have a look and brace yourself for massive windfall!
