It’s a do-or-die affair for Real Madrid as they welcome Borussia Monchengladbach to the Spanish capital for their final match in Group B on Wednesday night.
Few football enthusiasts would have thought Real Madrid would be fighting for their lives on the final matchday when the draw for Group B was done, bringing in Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Los Blancos did well to pick up 6 points from Inter Milan with a 3-2 home win and a 2-0 away win. It is their performances against the other members of the group that has left a lot to be desired and has them clutching at straws. More so the two shock losses to Shakhtar.
They come into this match off a workman-like performance in the 1-0 win at the weekend away in Sevilla in La Liga. Zinedine Zidane will be hoping to build on that against a team that has shown they will not sit back against anyone.
Monchengladbach are in pole position, topping this Group B coming into this last group game. They’ve proven they belong by posting terrific results and were on course for outright qualification, going undefeated until their last match that saw Inter Milan, throw a spanner in the works with a 3-2 away win leaving all 4 teams in it with a chance to make the round of 16.
Unlike their hosts, they picked the majority of their points by making light work of Real’s tormentors Shakhtar, crushing them 6-0 and 4-0 over the two legs. They also shared the spoils with Real Madrid in a thrilling 2-2 draw on opening night.
All they need to qualify is a draw here but that is easier said than done.
This, without a doubt, is Real Madrid’s biggest game of the season so far. The 13-time champions are on the verge of getting dumped from the group stage for the first time ever. They certainly will not go down without a fight and we expect them to be the aggressor in this clash. Like wounded buffalos, Los Merengues have shown us time and time again that they bring their A-game when their backs are against the wall. With key players like Ramos set to check back into the starting lineup we feel they have what it takes to pick up the win that will guarantee them passage to the next round and we are backing them to do just that @ 1.72 with Bwin as our first betting tip.
Goals will be high on the menu here. The attacking threat both teams possess means we will be in for a treat. Real have no option but to throw caution to the wind in search of goals. Monchengladbach, joint top scorers in the group stage with 16 goals, have what it takes to trouble the Madrid defence that has been far from resolute this season. We feel there will be loads of goals here and we are picking Over 2.5 goals @ 1.53 with Bwin betting app for our final tip.
