Chelsea travel to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville on Wednesday evening to lock horns with Sevilla with both teams looking to lock up the top spot in Champions League Group E.
Sevilla, long accustomed to success in Europe’s lower-tier competition, the Europa League, have brought in their workman attitude to great effect in their Champions League group games where they remain undefeated in the games they’ve played thus far (3W, 1D), matching Chelsea with 10 points, with the Blues just about edging the top spot in the group on goal difference.
They kicked off the campaign with a goalless stalemate at Stamford Bridge but followed that up with three straight wins, beating Rennes 1-0 and Krasnodar 3-2 and 2-1 home and away respectively.
Julen Lopetegui’s men certainly enter the game in good form thanks to five wins in a row in all competitions, most recently beating Huesca 1-0 to climb up to fifth in La Liga.
Like their hosts, Chelsea have also racked up 3 straight wins in the group following their 0-0 draw against them on the opening matchday. The last of these was a dramatic 2-1 win at Rennes which needed an injury-time winner from their old-guard forward Olivier Giroud.
After a shaky start to the season, Chelsea have slowly settled in the new crop of signings and have steadily been putting up some solid performances. The 0-0 draw at the weekend against Tottenham put a halt to their six-game winning streak. They however still remain unbeaten in their last 11 outings.
Lampard will field a strong side for this game having felt the wrath of facing a group winner last year when they were smashed to smithereens by Bayern Munich in their round of 16 matchup.
While on the face of it this may look like an inconsequential game, with both teams having already qualified for the knockout stage, there is a lot that is riding on this game. The top spot in the group is at stake and with both teams in a statistical dead-heat, this is the game that is going to break the tie one way or the other. Neither side will be willing to give too much ground at least to start the game but things may open up as the game progresses. We are inclined to go for Most Goals Second Half @ 2.04 with Bet9ja as our initial betting tip for the game.
Chelsea have the edge as things stand due to a better goal difference. A draw here will be enough to see them clinch that top spot. The onus is therefore on Sevilla to try and get Chelsea out of their comfort zone. They edged the 1×2 Corner battle 5-2 when they met at Stamford Bridge in the first leg and we are backing them to repeat this feat @ 1.96 with Bet9ja bookie review as our final betting tip.
