Here you can find the whole article the Golden Boot goes to.. with the main candidates for becoming the top scorer at the World Cup.
At Belgiums first friendly during their World Cup preparation, the Antwerp born Romelu Lukaku scored three times against Luxemburg. The end result was a 5:1 win for the Belgium team. Actually a not so special result if you consider that Belgium is one of the secret favourites for winning the World Cup in Brazil. But Lukakus show was impressive; he could be an interesting bet for the winner of the Golden Boot.
Let’s have a closer look on Lukakus past season with Everton:
After a long Premier League season you can see that his performance was a very nice. In 33 Premier League games he scored 15 times and gave 8 assists. Maybe Jose Mourinho will decide to get Lukaku back after the Word Cup is done. Compared to Chelsea’s striker, Lukaku would have been without a doubt the better choice this year. But for Lukaku as a person it was an important year with Everton.
With the national team:
Lukaku now has 30 games played with the Belgium national team. In these 30 games he scored 9 times. He scored two of these goals during Belgiums World Cup qualification – in only 4 games. His current value is around 25.000.000 €. But after a successful World Cup this value could explode and rise even higher. In addition to that he is considered as one of the biggest attacking talents in the world and is just 21 years old.
What can we expect of Lukaku in Brazil?
The Belgium team is the big favourite in Group H. They will play against Algeria, Russia and South Korea. It doesn’t seem to be the toughest group you can imagine at a World Cup. The Belgium team is a very young one and Lukaku is a strong striker who knows how to use his massive and strong body. But he is surprisingly fast for his figure and fits perfectly in Belgiums system. He will have some opportunities to score against their opponents in Group H. Belgium is expected to reach the final 16 and then they could meet their next opponent from Group G. That could be Germany, USA, Portugal or Ghana. If it is not Germany their chances for the quarter finals and some more Lukaku goals are not too bad. But there is not only Lukaku. They have Adnan Januzaj, Eden Hazard or Wolfsburgs Kevin de Bruyne. So Lukaku will have some very nice assistance to win the Golden Boot. They are a team which knows how to play fast counter attacks. So if they score an early goal and their opponent has to play more offensive they could find their space for more dangerous attacks and even more goals.
