On Saturday the 9th August Lille OSC start their Ligue 1 campaign by hosting FC Metz at 21:00 (CET). Lille ended up 3rd last season while Metz was promoted after winning the Ligue 2 in 2013/2014. The visitors were not able to win a match against LOSC in the last 20 years and it doesn’t look like this will change this weekend. While Metz lost 2 out of 3 pre-season games, Lille showed pretty good shape in the Champions League Qualification when eliminating Grashoppers Zürich easily. Lille OSC will win this opener at home and we take the odd of 1,50 into our betting slip.
An alternative would be to bet on over 1,5 goals here with the odd of 1,32 as FC Metz conceded most of their goals in away matches last season.

Our second game also takes place in France. On Sunday the 10th of August, Olympique Lyon host Stade Rennes. Lyon lost Bafetimbi Gomis during the transfer period to Swansea City but in their first two competitive games they were able to eliminate Mlada Boleslav easily from the Europa League Qualification. Stade Rennes finished on a 12th place past season and lost their last test match against FC Augsburg 1:2. Further more Rennes did not yet play a competitive game and Lyon stayed unbeaten in their last 5 matches (4 wins). So we pick the outright win of Lyon for our betting slip with odds of 1,80.
Double chance 1X would be safer here with an odd of 1,18.

On Sunday we can also watch the first highlight from the British Island. Arsenal meets with Manchester City in Wembley to decide the winner of the Community Shield 2014. It’s cup winners against league champions and it’s about the first title of the season. While Arsenal will miss its German World Champions (Mertesacker, Podolski and Özil) the Citizens will be without Negredo, Fernandinho, Agüero and Zabaleta. Nothing the less this will be an entertaining fight especially if we consider that 11 goals were scored in the last two meetings of those 2 teams. Therefore we pick the option “over 2,5 goals” as a betting tip for our combination bet. The odds are quite nice with 1,75.
An X at halftime also seems to be quite possible and offers a nice odd of 2,15 if you don’t believe in goals here.

German channel Sport1 broadcasts live on free-TV when Greuther Fürth face former Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg on Monday night in the 2. German Bundesliga. It’s a derby and the last 5 match ups between those two sides that were played in Greuther Fürth ended in a draw. FC Nürnberg sold 18 players after the relegation from the Bundesliga and added 13 new ones. They should have slightly more quality in the squad but those players are not a team yet. Greuther Fürth almost got promoted last season, just missed to beat the HSV in two relegation-playoff draws. They have home-field advantage but would probably be satisfied with a draw here. As the odds on a draw are pretty nice (3,40) we take some risk here and add the X to our multiple bet.
As an alternative a draw in the first half seems quite realistic as well. 2,15 are offered for that selection.
