EFL Championship Teams and Fixtures 2023/2024

A typical EFL Championship season runs annually from August to the following May. In the 2023/24 season, the league will get underway on 4 August 2023 and wrap up on 4 May 2024. After that, playoffs ensue to determine which team clinches the third spot in the Premier League.

In the 23/24 EFL championship campaign 24 teams will face each other over two legs, once at home and once away, meaning each of the teams in the League will be competing in 46 games in total. The points gathered by each team will be used to determine their position in the table. If two teams reach the same number of points, a team’s ranking can be determined by goal difference, goals scored, and sometimes their head-to-head record for that season (including away goals record).

At the end of the Championship season, the top two teams earn automatic promotion to England’s top flight known as the Premier League. For those who finish in 3rd to 6th positions, there is a play-off competition to determine who gets to play Premier League football the following season.

In the play-offs, the third-placed team plays against the sixth-placed team and the fourth-placed team plays against the fifth-placed team in a two-legged semi-final (home and away). The winners of each semi-final then compete in a single match at Wembley stadium with the incentive being promotion to the Premier League and the Championship play-off trophy. The championship playoff final has a reputation to be one of the most exciting games across all competitions.

The bottom three teams are relegated to Football League One.

In 23/24 season, the following teams will be participating; Birmingham, Blackburn, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Huddersfield, Hull City, Ipswich Town, Leeds, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Norwich, Plymouth Argyle, Preston, QPR, Rotherham, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland, Swansea, Watford, West Brom.
